H.R.6164 To amend title IV of the Public Health Service Act to revise and extend the authorities of the National Institutes of Health, and for other purposes.

This bill extends authorities of the Public Health Service Act as it applies to the National Institutes of Health.

The NIH includes a number of sub-agencies that study a variety of health matters ranging from cancer research to environmental health sciences. Those agencies could face modification of their duties or removal of them under this bill that authorizes the NIH Director to do so. The agencies could be terminated and new ones can be created.

The bill intends to streamline the NIH programs to improve efficiency and results of research.

A board is created to oversee the transitions and facilitate the Directors responsibilities that this bill requires.
