S 1017 to reauthorize grants for the water resources research and technology institutes established under the Water Resources Research Act of 1984.

BRIEF

The bill reauthorizes the 1964 law that provides grants to 54 land grant colleges in the 50 States, Virgin Islands, Guam, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The funds are used to conduct water-related research and to train scientists and engineers to enter into the field of water research and management. The schools use the funds to award grants for research into water and water management problems.

The bill also reauthorizes interstate water research grants to investigate interstate water problems. Those grants require dollar for dollar matching by the States receiving the grants.
