H.R.813 Santa Ana River Water Supply Enhancement Act of 2007

 

This reoccurring bill, yet to make it into public law, would authorize the Secretary of Interior to participate financially and through regulations in the design, plan and construction of treatment systems and wetlands to facilitate flow into the Prado Basin, water from the Santa Ana River in California. Included is a demonstration and reclamation project that will include collection and removal of brine to the Pacific Ocean.

 

Local governments and the Chino Basin Watermaster, the Inland Empire Utilities Agency and the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority are also authorized to be invo9lved in the design, plan and construction of the Lower Chino Diary Area desalinization.

 

The Secretary’s role will include technical assistance and educational support to improve public understanding and acceptance of membrane produced water supplies.

Vote: Passed House by voice vote October 22, 2007

Cost to the taxpayers: Federal assistance may not exceed 25%. The bill authorizes $112 million.
