Executive Order 13449 Protection of striped bass and red drum fish populations.
The bill establishes as US policy conservation of stripped bass and red drum fish for recreational, economic and environmental benefit of the present and future generations.
The effort is to be based on sound science and in cooperation with State, territorial, local and tribal governments, the private sector and others, as appropriate.
The Secretary of Commerce is directed to encourage those governments to manage the fish population in a fashion that supports the policy including designation as a game fish. The Secretary will prohibit the sale of stripped bas and red drum caught within the Exclusive Economic Zone of the US in the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. The sale of those fish from aquaculture sources is not prohibited.
