S.1886 A bill to authorize the transfer of naval vessels to certain foreign recipients.

                                                                                         

BRIEF

   Transferring US vessels to foreign countries requires Congressional approval. This bill would transfer three minesweepers and two destroyers and authorizes the President to sell an amphibious vessel, a minesweeper and a destroyer.

   This bill would transfer:

the OSPREY class minesweeper PELICAN (MHC-53) to Greece,

two OSPREY class Minesweepers, CARDINAL (MHC-60 and RAVEN (MHC-61) to Egypt,

the SPRUANCE class destroyer, FLETCHER (DD-992) to Pakistan and

the SPRUANCE class destroyer, CUSHING (DD-985) to Turkey.

 

  The President is also authorized in the bill to sell:

the AUSTIN class amphibious transport dock ship, TRENTON (LPD-14) to India,

the OSPREY class minesweeper coastal ship HERON (MHC-52) to Greece and

the SPRUANCE class destroyer O’BANNON (DD0987) to Turkey.

   Cost of transfers will be charged to the recipient. To the extent practicable the recipient countries would have necessary repairs or refurbishments done in a US shipyard.
