H.R.3895 To amend title V of the Housing Act of 1949 to provide rural housing assistance to families affected by Hurricane Katrina.

                                                                                         

BRIEF

  When the President declares an area a disaster the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development is authorized regarding the affected county and adjoining counties to convert rental assistance funds into housing voucher assistance or rural housing vouchers. The Secretary could also reprogram funds and waive the rural area requirements.

   The authority would extend for six months after the disaster and would be without limit. Loan and refinancing guarantees would be permitted for home repair and rehabilitation for single family housing.
