H.R.1168 To amend chapter 42 of title 38, United States Code, to provide certain veterans with employment training assistance.
Under the bill the Secretary of Labor is required to pay a monthly assistance allowance to each veteran enrolled in an employment and training program to learn a skill that is in demand. Such skills will be determined by the Secretary.
Qualified veterans are those who were employed at least four consecutive months prior to entering the program, are able to successfully complete the program, and are ineligible for other education and training assistance for veterans. The assistance will be for no more than 6 months during each 10 year period.
The amount of assistance will be equal to the amount for basic housing for a member of the Armed Forces with dependents at a pay grade of E-5. A moving stipend of up to $5,000 is included if moving is related to the training.
