S.2206 A bill to provide technical corrections to Public Law 109-116 (2 U.S.C. 2131a note) to extend the time period for the Joint Committee on the Library to enter into an agreement to obtain a statue of Rosa Parks, and for other purposes.
The 109th Congress agreed to the acquisition and installation of a statue of African-American civil rights icon, Rosa Parks. The previous law allowed two years to accomplish the acquisition. This bill adds two years to the effort.
Rosa Parks was a 60s-era activist who refused to give up her bus seat and sit in the back of a municipal bus as Alabama law required. She was arrested and entered the world of civil rights activism. She died in 2006.
