Executive Order 13448 blocking property and prohibiting certain transactions related to Burma.
The President takes further steps with respect to the Government of Burma’s repression of the democratic opposition in Burma.
The President finds that the Government of Burma manifested its opposition to a democratic political movement in a violent response to peaceful demonstrations but that the Government of Burma has been involved in public corruption to include diverting or misusing public assets and authority. The activities constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the US.
The President orders that all property and interests in property of suspected persons who are in the US or come within US jurisdiction are blocked and may not be transferred, paid, exported, withdrawn or otherwise dealt in.
Individuals subject to the sanctions include senior officials of the Government of Burma, the State Peace and Development Council of Burma, the Union Solidarity and Development Association of Burma or any of their successors who are responsible for or have participated in human rights abuses related to political repression, to be engaged or have engaged in public corruption by senior government officials, to have materially assisted or provided financial and other support in support of those organizations mentioned above. The assets of spouses and dependent children of those individuals are also blocked.
