H.R.1245 To provide for programs to increase the awareness and knowledge of women and health care providers with respect to gynecologic cancers.

 

The Secretary of Health and Human Services is directed to carry out a national campaign to increase awareness and knowledge among women with respect to gynecological cancers.

 

The effort shall include written materials and distribution of the materials, public service announcements to encourage women to discuss cancer risks with their physicians. The announcements will inform also where the written materials can be obtained and call attention to early warning signs and risk factors based on best available medical attention.

 

Grants would be made available to nonprofit private entities to test different outreach and education strategies, increase knowledge and highlight warning signs and treatment options. Grants would be available to applicants with demonstrated expertise in gynecological cancer education and treatment or with working with women in high risk categories. Projects receiving grants will establish links between physicians, nurses, and key health professionals, hospitals, payers and State health departments.
