S.485 A bill to reauthorize and amend the National Geologic Mapping Act of 1992.

BRIEF

The bill changes existing law to extend deadlines for developing a five year strategic plan of the geologic mapping program and removes from the original program objectives the development of a geophysical and geochemical map database. Rather the priorities of the mapping programs would be based in part on the needs of the Department of Interior land management agencies

The Congressional Research Service noted that the Advisory Committee overseeing the mapping would be required to provide a scientific overview of geologic maps used by or distributed by Federal agencies for land-use planning.
