S.1894 A bill to amend part E of title IV of the Social Security Act to provide for the making of foster care maintenance payments to private for-profit agencies.

BRIEF

The Social Security system provides funds for foster care to non-profit agencies to maintain such care. This bill would allow for those funds to be provided to private, for-profit agencies.

The bill strikes all reference to non-profit recipients and replaces ‘non-profit’ with ‘for-profit’ in the SS Act text.

The bill was passed quickly by voice vote and apparently without committee review. There was no debate.

Sponsor: Senator James M. Inhofe (R-OK-)

Vote: Passed Senate by Unanimous Consent October 19, 2005 Passed House by voice vote November 8, 2005.

Cost to the taxpayers: No discernible cost.
