BRIEF

The text of this resolution was not available at press time, however, the essential element is the word ‘immediate’ in the phrase ‘terminated immediately’.

The argument in favor of the withdrawal were based on the war having depleted US resources with little to show leading to an occupation that could continue for years and that withdrawal would impose the requirement on Iraqi forces to take up the battle, or more of the battle, themselves.

Opponents to withdrawal specifically centered their arguments on the belief that withdrawal or even a hint of withdrawal would strengthen the enemy’s resolve and undermine the morale of US troops in Iraq.
