H.CON.RES.79 Authorizing the use of the Capitol Grounds for the Greater Washington Soap Box Derby.

 

The Greater Washington Soap Box Derby Association is reauthorized to sponsor a soap box derby on the capital Grounds this June 16th.

 

The event began in 1991 and now attracts over 50 participants ranging from age 8 through 17 from the Metro-Washington area. The winners from each age division will compete for scholarships and merchandize prizes in the All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio.

 

Attending the event is free and the Association assumes all responsibility for all expenses and liabilities associated with the event.

 

Sponsor:  Rep. Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD-5th)

Vote: Passed House by voice vote May 15, 2007

Cost to the taxpayers: “CBO estimates that adopting H. Con. Res. 79 would result in no significant cost to the federal government”
