H.CON.RES.123 Authorizing the use of the Capitol Grounds for the District of Columbia Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.

 

This yearly resolution authorizes use of Capital grounds for the District of Columbia Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run on June 8, 2007.

 

The Torch Run is a nationwide event in which law enforcement from nearly 50 local and federal law enforcement agencies show their support for the Special Olympics. The relay culminates at the opening of the Special Olympics ceremonies that will take place at catholic University in D.C..

 

The resolution notes that the Capital Police participate in the Run and the Architect of the capital prescribes conditions for the event that include consideration of sales, advertising, displays and solicitation.

 

2,500 athletes participate in the Special Olympics each year.

Vote: Passed House by voice vote May 15, 2007

Cost to the taxpayers: “CBO estimates that passage of H. Con. Res. 123 would result in no significant cost to the federal government.”
