S.1869 A bill to reauthorize the Coastal Barrier Resources Act, and for other purposes.
BRIEF
1982 legislation created the Coastal Barrier Resources Act to encourage conservation of “hurricane prone, biologically rich coastal barriers by restricting Federal expenditures that encourage development”. Such expenditures would include Federal flood insurance. According to bill data, the areas can be developed but not with taxpayer dollars underwriting the projects.
Recent reauthorization legislation also called for all coastal barrier maps to be digitalized and to conduct and economic assessment of the effects of the 1982 bill. This bill continues to fund the Act and it’s projects.
