HR 744 to discourage spyware and for other purposes.
BRIEF
This bill, like another bill, HR 29, that passed the House this week prohibits the taking of personal information from your computer without your permission by the use of programs know as spyware or adware. Such programs are proficient at finding personal information on your computer and transmitting it to another computer.
Intentionally obtain, or transmit to another, personal information with the intent to defraud or injure a person or cause damage to a protected computer; or intentionally impair the security protection of the protected computer and you will be fined and receive up to five years in prison. Civil action against offenders is prohibited by the bill.
