S.1002 A bill to amend the Older Americans Act of 1965 to reinstate certain provisions relating to the nutrition services incentive program.
The 1965 Act is amended to allow that each State and each grantee shall be entitled to use all or any part of funds allotted for food programs from the Department of Agriculture food programs. The food would be for distribution to seniors in need.
The Secretary of Agriculture is required to report on which State and grantee elected to receive the commodities and the extent to which the commodities are distributed to those recipients. The Secretary will transfer funds for the cost of the commodities received by the State or grantee and the expenses related to procuring the commodity. The Secretary must also disseminate to State agencies and grantees, area agencies on aging and providers of nutrition services information concerning foods available.
Who pays the cost of transferring the commodities from Federal to State recipients remains to be determined and is subject to appropriations. Food must be domestically produced.
State or tribal agencies may no longer opt to use part of all of the grants to pay a school food authority to obtain US agricultural commodities for its nutrition projects.
