HR 1160 to reauthorize the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families block grant program through June 30, 2005, and for other purposes.

 

 

BRIEF

  The TANF program encompasses several efforts to help and provide medical assistance to the poor and poor children. The funds are provided to the States as block grants and the States distribute the money or services to those in need.

Cost to the taxpayers: The bill would authorize such sums as may be necessary. This program has been reauthorized in the recent past. Spending has ranged from $12 billion for six months to $4 billion for three months.
