S.1344 A bill to temporarily protect the solvency of the Highway Trust Fund.
The Highway Trust Fund receives its funds from taxes on gasoline and other petroleum products. States then make request of the fund through their elected officials for transportation-related projects.
Demands on the fund over the past four years prompted Congress and President Bush to appropriate $9 billion in 2007-2008 to keep it solvent.
{Note: this bill report is incomplete due to a delay in the Senate Secretary's Office in processing the bill text through the Government Printing Office afterwhich it will become accessible to the public. The bill report will be updated when that data becomes available.}
