The spending is authorized under a provision in the 1994 Act that aids the preservation of multinational species through research and conservation programs.

Sponsor:  Rep. Don Young (R-AK)

Vote: Passed House by voice vote July 23, 2007

Cost to the taxpayers: CBO estimates that implementing H.R. 50 would result in additional spending of $68 million over the 2008-2012 period. (An additional $7 million would be spent after 2012.)
