H.R.2381 To promote Department of the Interior efforts to provide a scientific basis for the management of sediment and nutrient loss in the Upper Mississippi River Basin, and for other purposes.
Under this bill nutrient and sediment in the Upper Mississippi River Basin would be monitored by the US Geological Society. Sediment and nutrient growth are detrimental to the health of the river and its navigational qualities.
The study would inventory sediment and monitoring by non-governmental agencies and use that data to help create a baseline of data. Collaboration with public and private monitoring opportunities is to be included in the overall plan.
The final outcome will be computer modeling of sediment and nutrients and their sources in the Basin and an Internet system to distribute information about the buildups and efforts results to reduce the buildups.
