S.279 A bill to amend the Act of June 7, 1924, to provide for the exercise of criminal jurisdiction.

 

                                                                                         

BRIEF

  The bill allocates jurisdiction over offenses committed within the boundaries Pueblo Indian tribe of New Mexico to. Any offense committed by a member of a federally recognized Indian tribe or by any other Indian-owned entity is within Pueblo jurisdiction. Any specified Federal offense that is committed by or against Pueblo that involves any Indian property or interest is within the US jurisdiction  and the State of New Mexico takes the reigns for any offense committed by a person who is not a member of a federally recognized tribe, which offense is not subject to U.S. jurisdiction.
