The Resolution explained that David Scott Tidmarsh, a student at Edison Intermediate Center located in South Bend, Indiana, made his way to the finals of the national spelling bee after winning the City of South Bend, Indiana spelling bee.
Matched with 265 master spellers from around the world Mr. Tidmarsh survived 15 rounds of competition
On June 3, 2004 he won the title by correctly spelling ‘autochthonous’ which Webster’s Tenth defines as; ‘Indigenous’, ‘Native’ and ‘formed or originated in the place it was found.’ O-`tak-thə-nəs
