House Resolution 10 providing amounts for interim expenses of the Committee on Homeland Security in the first session of the 109th Congress.

 

 

 

BRIEF

  The would provide interim funding for the newly formed Committee on Homeland Security (CHS). The CHS was originally a select committee and when it was transformed for this 109th Congress to a permanent committee funds were not included. Until Congress can meet to establish permanent funding the Committee will continue with the interim amounts.

  According to bill supporter Rep. John B. Larson D-CT-1st) the Committee has produced a 90 page comprehensive plan to eliminate the threat to the US from al Qaeda. The plan reportedly played a large role in the introduction of the War on Terror Act (HR 5291), “designed to implement a series of initiatives and defeat terrorists and enemies.”

   The Committee also produced the report ‘America at Risk: Closing the Security Gap. The report identifies security gaps and shortcomings in homeland security efforts and recommends actions. One other report from the Committee is, ‘Transforming the Southern Border: Providing Security and Prosperity in the Post-9/11 World.
