H.R.475 To revise the composition of the House of Representatives Page Board to equalize the number of members representing the majority and minority parties and to include a member representing the parents of pages and a member representing former pages, and for other purposes.
The Congressional Page Program provides for employment of youth to function as pages in the Capitol. Pages are usually in their teens and are housed, fed and educated by the program. The page program is overseen by the House Page board in the US House.
The bill provides equal representation from both political parties on the Page Board and adds two members that will function as a liaison between the Board and page parents and between the Board and former pages. Also added to the board would be a parent of a page within the past five years and a former page who is not a Member of the House.
Board members will serve for one year and may be reappointed. Members can be paid travel or transportation expenses, including per diem for attending meetings of the Page Board while away from home. Travel and per diem funds will come from existing House accounts.
The Board will meet regularly.
