H.R.188 To provide a new effective date for the applicability of certain provisions of law to Public Law 105-331.
Public Law 105-331 was passed by the 105th Congress to create a commemorative coin honoring Thomas Jefferson. Such bills come with the requirement that taxpayer funds are not spent on such commemorative efforts, that the coins are sold with a surcharge to cover expenses and that any remaining profits be donated to a group supporting the creation of the coin and one that plans educational activities surrounding the distribution of the coin.
This bill deals with excess amounts yet unpaid to the recipient group because the amount must be matched by the group within two years (From passage of PL 105-331-the two year period was already extended once). The period to raise the matching funds is extended through July 1, 2007. In the mean time the funds will be deposited in the US Treasury.
Sponsor: Rep Frank Pallone Jr. (D-NJ-6th) Vote: Passed House by voice vote January 16, 2007 Cost to the taxpayers: No discernible cost.
