H.R.798 To direct the Administrator of General Services to install a photovoltaic system for the headquarters building of the Department of Energy
The Administrator of the General Services is directed to install photovoltaic systems in the headquarters building of the Department of Energy. A photovoltaic system is one that uses radiant energy to produce electricity or voltage such as do solar energy cells.
The project would consist of a “sun wall” of almost 25,000 solar panels that would Provide some electricity and hot water to the building, the CBO said. The project has been approved and funded but has not been implemented the CBO indicated.
The building is located at 1000 Independence Avenue, Southwest, Washington, D.C., and is commonly known as the Forrestal Building.
Sponsor: Rep. James L. Oberstar (R-MN-8th) Vote: Cost to the taxpayers: $30 million from unobligated balances of money granted the project for fiscal year 2007. Money can’t be spent until September 30, 2007. Earmark Certification: Not applicable to this bill.
