Week Ending December 8, 2006

S.1529 A bill to provide for the conveyance of certain Federal land in the city of Yuma, Arizona.

Yuma wants title to 6 parcels (7 acres) of Federal Bureau of reclamation land so that it may complete redevelopment of the downtown riverfront. Yuma will swap other parcels including three railroad parcels leading to Yuma’s desalting plant. Yuma will also receive another parcel of US Fish and Wildlife Service land on which it intends to build the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters and Visitor’s Center. The lands exchanged are expected to be of equal value and any discrepancies will be paid by either party.

Sponsor:  Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ)

Vote: Passed Senate by Unanimous Consent December 7, 2006. Passed House by voice vote December 9, 2006.

Cost to the taxpayers: CBO estimates that this conveyance would result in additional offsetting receipts (a credit against direct spending) to the federal government of about $500,000 in fiscal year 2007.
