H.R.1674 To authorize and strengthen the tsunami detection, forecast, warning, and mitigation program of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, to be carried out by the National Weather Service, and for other purposes.
The Administrator of NOAA is directed to operate a tsunami forecasting and warning program for the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico.
Warning centers would be established to disseminate forecasts and warning bulletins to all levels of government and the public. Pre-tsunami mitigation is ordered to enhance preparedness in at-risk areas and a research program is ordered to develop detection, forecast, communication and mitigation science and technology for tracking and modeling.
