BRIEF

The President in authorized to transfer to Korean ownership ‘obsolete or surplus munitions, equipment and materiel (such as tanks, trucks, artillery, mortar, general purpose bombs, repair parts, barrier material and ancillary equipment)’ from the reserve stock for Korea, said the Congressional Research Service summary.

The costing of the efforts would indicate that it is cheaper for the US to simply transfer ownership of the materiel in Korea to Korea than it is to dispose of the stuff. The authority of the transfer expires in three years. The materiel could be used for counter terrorism, contingency operations, training or stockpiling.

The transfer ends the stockpile program for Korea.
