HR 5360 to authorize grants to establish academies or teachers and students of American history and civics, and for other purposes.
BRIEF
The bill would authorize the Secretary of Education to award up to 12 competitive grants to entities with demonstrated expertise in historical methodology or the teaching of history. The grants would help establish the Presidential Academies for Teaching of American History and Civics that may offer workshops for both veteran and new teachers. The grants would also be used for Congressional Academies for Students of American History and Civics.
Continuation of grants to the National History Day program and to expand its activities to promote the study of history and improve instruction is authorized.
