H.R.2707 To reauthorize the Underground Railroad Educational and Cultural Program.
This bill establishes a grant program for nonprofit educational organizations to research, display, interpret and collect artifacts relating to the history of the Underground railroad through which slaves were transported to freedom.
Grantees must establish a facility to house and display the artifacts and demonstrate substantial private support on a state or local public private effort. Private money must equal at least four times the public money.
A network of satellite centers throughout the country must be established to disseminate the knowledge if those centers can raise 80% of needed funds privately.

Dennis Kuchinich (D-OH-10th) Vote: Passed House by voice vote July 30, 3007 Cost to the taxpayers: There are authorized to be appropriated to carry out this section $6,000,000 for fiscal year 2008, $6,000,000 for fiscal year 2009, $6,000,000 for fiscal year 2010, $3,000,000 for fiscal year 2011, and $3,000,000 for fiscal year 2012.
