BILL INCREASES NUCLEAR TERROR PROTECTION FOR CITIES
TheWeekInCongress.com - January 21, 2010 - The House agreed to continue funding for the Secure Cities Initiatives, a program that provides funds and technical support to prevent nuclear materials from entering cities that are potential terrorist targets.
New York City has been the only one using the program. The bill requires that at least two more cities sign on and provides the funding for that expansion.
HOUSE EXPRESSES SOLIDARITY WITH HAITI EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS, APPROVES TAX DEDUCTION FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
The house passed a resolution describing the details of the earthquake devastation that struck Haiti on January 12th and a bill authorizing a tax deduction for donations to aid organizations.
Donations made after January 11, 2010 and before March 2, 2010 can be treated for tax purposes as if they were made before December 31, 2009.
