House Resolution 608 Improved Military Postal Service

BRIEF

H RES 608 is the sense of the House that it is in the interest of the US to immediately resolve long-standing military mail delivery problems so that our troops may receive mail from their families when they most need it. It is also a priority to resolve military mail delivery problems that obstruct our troops participation in the 2004 election.

Congress urges the Secretary of Defense to establish a system that expedites the delivery of election ballots to the members of our Armed Forces and establish a system that accurately tracks military postal transit times.

The House of Representatives stands ready to assist in resolving these issues.

The House is suggesting that the whole process of the Military Postal Service become automated.

Cost to the taxpayer: Should the Department of Defense go forward and purchase an automated mail system the funds would have to be appropriated unless there are contingency funds already available that, by law, could be spent on the project.## All Rights Reserved.
