HR 4614 Energy and Water Development Appropriations

 

BRIEF

   The bill makes appropriations for energy and water development expenses of the Departments of Defense ($4.5 billion), Interior ($980 million), Energy ($21.9 billion) and independent agencies ($227 million).

  The money would be spent on projects such as those carried out by the Army Corp of Engineers involving infrastructure, restoration and numerous Dept of Energy projects such as the Yucca Mountain repository for the Nation’s nuclear waste in Nevada ($131million)

Other spending includes:

   Office of Nuclear Energy gets a $51 million increase to $463.8 million

   Science programs under the DOE get bumped $167 million for a new class of computers.

    Nuclear programs related to weapons (National Nuclear Security Administration) gets a $372 million increase to spend $ 9 billion.

   Weapons dismantlement gets an increase of $28 million over last year to spend $1.4 billion.

   Defense environmental management will spend $6.8 billion. That is $301 million over 2004 but $64 million less than the president asked for.

   The independent agencies are all nuclear related agencies with one exception and will receive around $220 million to carry out their responsibilities.

   Uranium Enrichment Decontamination and Decommissioning will spend $500 million.

   For power supply management needs the Southeastern Power Administration would receive $5.2 million. Southwestern power admin gets $29 million. Western Power gets $173 million.
