HOUSE PASSES HURRICANE DISASTER BILLS FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

 

Blizzards, Ice Storms and Lack of Snow Added to List of Disasters Qualifying Businesses for Federal Aid

 

The bill requires the Small Business Administration to prepare and test a disaster response plan that would provide grants, loans and oversight for small businesses impacted by a disaster.

 

The bill allows for waiving prohibitions on federal aid to businesses already paid by private insurance and other government aid programs.

WATER RESOURCES BILL FUNDS WATER INFRASTRUCTURE, NAVIGATION AND ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION PROJECTS NATIONWIDE

 

Army Corps of Engineer projects are authorized in this legislation that give special attention to Florida's Everglade Restoration Plan and creates a task force to oversee restoration of Louisiana's eco-barrier to hurricane storm surge on its coast. The bill would cost $13 billion over ten years and includes dredging of hundreds of miles of the Mississippi River and the Illinois Waterway and a retrofit and expansion of dozens of existing river locks.

Financial Data on Judges and Families Protected from Predators

 

Bill Follows Murder of Judges Husband

 

The bill aims to preserve the independence of the judiciary by providing US Marshall protection to tax court personnel and others thereby allowing them to perform their duties without concern for their safety.

 

Despite increased security judges would be provided with free life insurance benefits and judges over 65 would be paid for life insurance premium increases.

 

Penalties for witness tampering and interference would pull prison terms to twenty years.
