Editor's note: The Senate this week is considering the bill to appropriate funds for the Departments of Commerce and Justice and science organizations and agencies for fiscal year 2006. The House already passed the bill and included spending for the Department of State. The Senate will consider State Department spending separately. The Senate is expected to continue consideration of the bill next week--the week ending September 16, 2005--and the Senate actions will be reported in that edition of TheWeekInCongress. The reports on the House versions can be read here: Commerce; Justice; Science; State. All are part of HR 2862 and some provisions will be modified by Senate action. Following passage of the Senate version the bill is likely to go to a House/Senate conference to work out differences.
